Earthen Warrior

A little bit boho, a little bit rock n roll

You Wear What You Eat

DESCRIPTION

In this class you will learn to dye textiles using food that is commonly discarded. The plant world is a magnificent resource for natural dyes, and this includes the plants we regularly consume right in our own kitchen!

This class is tailored for foods you would be consuming at this time of year from a grocery store or farmer’s market. We will make gorgeous springy greens from carrot tops, yellows from onion skins, peachy pinks from avocado pits, and purples from red cabbage and black beans. This is a wonderful class if you have been interested in natural dyeing and wanted to learn a bit more. You can replicate what you learn in this class on the cheap as you continue your experimentation.

We will provide you with a few strips of prepared textiles to experiment with and your own tote bag which you can dye and bring with you to the farmer’s market or grocery store! You are welcome to bring old linens or garments to experiment with as well. This will be a fun day of learning, experimenting, and playing with natural color all with the wonderful benefit of reducing food waste!
