The quote by a Yale geochemist which ends this New York Times article is “I feel like the time to do something was yesterday.”

I have been following climate change since High School. I’ve seen every leader besides an ostracized few, do absolutely nothing. When I was in High School 2000-2004, this was an issue that was just beginning to emerge. It has now passed the point of what we know is manageable.

When scientists and doctors are using language like “it’s scary” you know there’s a real problem.

More than the hardworking citizens who are just trying to make ends meet, it is up to our leaders in government to take action. We did not design the systems that have brought us to this point, and we should not have to feel guilty for simply existing in a system that is designed to burn fossil fuels. This is not to discount the small, personal actions we can all take, which I’ll save for a later post. But in reality, not everyone has a life that can accomodate biking everywhere, or retrofitting a car with biofuel, or putting up solar panels. Those things take time and money, and the average world citizen has neither in excess. It is up to our government to subsidize efforts that will curtail this devastation, to find solutions, to do whatever they have to do to. I think it’s time for us all to get pissed. I know I am.

As my mother so plainly and eloquently put it, “The earth is an Eden. We were given everything we need.” And yet somehow, we are mucking it up royally.

Besides being overwhelmed with indignation, this is what I’m going to do:http://350.org/en

What else? I don’t know. I feel mostly helpless. Suggestions welcome.

This was me for most of the day, after a long, wonderful night out, until my friend came and got me out and we walked across the Williamsburg bridge and she bought me dinner in Brooklyn. Life is good.

Reconstruction of the day. Crop top (with serious #sideboob capabilities) made from size 12 silk blouse. Can also be tied in back (as seen on me bottom right) for a more fitted look. #ecofashion #nyc #repurposed #fashion (at THE PITT) View high resolution
